Amala Soumyanath is a Professor of Neurology at Oregon Health & Science University. Her research integrates neuroscience, pharmacology, and phytochemistry to investigate bioactive compounds from medicinal plants, with a particular focus on *Centella asiatica* and its potential for treating Alzheimer’s disease and age-related cognitive decline. Her recent work explores asiatic acid’s modulation of antioxidant and mitochondrial pathways in 5xFAD mice, the epigenetic effects of *Centella asiatica* on DNA methylation, and the standardization of botanical extracts via metabolomic profiling. She also investigates the neuroprotective properties of *Scutellaria lateriflora* and the herb-drug interaction risks of ashwagandha on cytochrome P450 enzymes. Her translational research bridges traditional phytotherapy with rigorous molecular and genetic methodologies.
