Alexandra Wright is a Senior Professor at California State University, Los Angeles. Her research integrates plant ecology, community ecology, and climate change science, focusing on how atmospheric drought and rising vapour pressure deficit shape plant functional traits, biodiversity, and ecosystem functioning. Her recent work explores complementarity in ecological restoration, the role of plant functional diversity in virus prevalence, and the development of nature-based solutions to warming and drying climates. She has pioneered experimental methods using silica gel packets to simulate atmospheric drought in mesocosms. Wright received the prestigious NSF CAREER award (2022) for her project on microclimate amelioration underlying biodiversity-ecosystem functioning research. Her publications appear in leading journals including Trends in Ecology & Evolution, Plant Cell & Environment, and Journal of Ecology.
