Alexander J. F. Lazar is a Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research focuses on sarcoma pathology and tumor biology, employing spatial proteomics and single-cell transcriptomics to map tumor microenvironments and immune niches. He leads clinical trials for rare malignancies, including SMARCB1-deficient renal medullary carcinoma, and investigates biomarkers of immunotherapy response in appendiceal adenocarcinoma. His recent work includes a spatially-resolved single-cell atlas of liposarcoma and explainable AI models for sarcoma subtype prediction from H&E slides. He collaborates internationally through the PUSH consortium on ultra-rare sarcomas.
