Alaa Sheta is a Senior Professor at Southern Connecticut State University. His research interests span evolutionary computation, machine learning, deep learning, systems engineering, and design optimization, with a particular focus on applying metaheuristic search algorithms to engineering and data science problems. His latest work includes an innovative UAV-based deep learning system for bridge crack detection (2026), an expert system for tomato plant disease diagnosis in smart agriculture (2026), and a comparative analysis of metaheuristic algorithms for stock market price forecasting (2025). He has also contributed to evolutionary PID controller design, MPPT control optimization for DC-DC boost converters, and a new version of the Golden Eagle Optimizer algorithm for team formation problems. His recent publications appear in venues such as the Journal of Advanced Computer Science & Technology and the Journal of Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing Research.
